Cleanings and Exams
When it comes to oral health, proper at-home care is important. But sadly this isn't enough to sustain a healthy, beautiful smile. To get the most out of your dental care, it should be paired with regular visits to your dentist for routine cleanings and exams.
There is a multitude of benefits to these visits, namely maintaining the health of your gums and teeth. The team at Creating Smiles by Dr. Scott Carel performs these exams with the utmost attention to detail and works with you on a plan to completely renew your smile.
X-Rays for a Closer Look
First, our hygienist takes x-rays of your teeth for a closer look at any potential concerns. Dr. Scott looks at these x-rays with you, going over any issues he detects and laying out a treatment plan that works for you.
Our equipment is kept on the lowest level of radiation possible for the peace of mind of our patients. We also use an intraoral camera to capture close-up, high-quality digital images of your teeth and enamel to ensure that the surface of your teeth shows no signs of damage or decay.
Removal of Plaque and Calculus
The cleaning portion of the exam, performed by our skilled dental hygienist, involves using an array of tools to gently remove the buildup of plaque and tartar.
It is during this process that the hygienist will be able to visually inspect the teeth and gums for signs of decay and inflammation. Anything that is detected will be noted and brought to the attention of Dr. Scott, who will be able to adjust your treatment plan accordingly.
Creating Smiles takes pride in returning radiance to the smiles of each and every patient that walks through our door. Your health and confidence is our top priority.
Professional Brushing and Flossing
Brushing, flossing, and rinsing are the three most important aspects of at-home care. However, keeping up with this full routine can be difficult for some patients. While in-office treatments are no substitute for proper oral hygiene habits, our hygienist can perform these crucial tasks at the end of your cleaning.
Using an electric toothbrush and lightly-abrasive toothpaste, your teeth will be thoroughly polished, removing any excess plaque leftover from the cleaning process.
You will then be shown multiple methods and proper techniques for flossing. Flossing is integral to your oral health, as brushing can't reach every contour and crevice in your dentition. Without regular flossing, bacteria and plaque are left to build up in the spaces between your teeth.
Finally, you may be asked to rinse with a fluoride-enriched mouthwash. Fluoride is a chemical that strengthens enamel on a molecular level while also neutralizing the bacterial acids that can cause cavities.
